string length for different riser/limb combinations
I don't know about everyone else but I'm finding it a bit confusing when talking about a 70" recurve and string length.
The AMO standard would seem to say 169cm length for FF+ string.
Now, using a 25" winstar II riser with long 24lb KAP limbs I have to put in 40 twists to get to a 9" BH. But putting the same limbs on a Samick Athlete using a std 70" AMO string with NO twists gives a 9.35" BH........which puzzled me until I compared the actual limb mounting points between the 2 risers and found that the distance between the Athlete ILF mounting points are 1/2" longer, hence the reason for the 169cm string being to short. Making the assumption that adding 1/2" to the std 169cm would get me in the ball park didn't work, the string is now to long.
I did take the 169cm string and apply different amounts of twists to get different lengths and tried applying the results as a percentage to a longer string for the Athlete, but the results seem to differ depending on the initial length of string.
My question is if all 25" risers have this kind of variation what is the best and simplest way of determining what the correct string length should be.
No wonder relative beginners like me get confused:boggled:
