fletching, that is...

given release aids, zero nock travel. no paradox et al. how important is fletching for compound?

1 3/4"? 1 9/16"? why? why not less? what's the trade off...stability v drag?

how did you decide?

If you shot every shot perfectly, and the weather conditions were perfect every time you shot, you would not need fletchings!

(I shot a six gold end at 70m to prove this without vanes on my nav's).

However, I could only do it once lol.

The vanes are there to point in the arrow in the right direction (well, steer it actually), when forces other than the "perfect ones" act on it.

I can't actually describe it now I try to, hopefully someone a little more awake than I will be along shortly.... lol.

I go with as small as I can get without custom making my own. So right now I use 1.5" X-Vanes. Love em, been using them for almost a yer and have yet to tear one. Also broke many of my outdoor PB scores with them.
My wife came within 2 points of the world 60m record with them as well.
