Anywhere in this country that does original Fastflight?
instead of Fastflight Plus.
I'm not convinced that Fastflight Plus has enough stretchiness for a longbow and I'm not convinced that the B55 dacron strings I've made recently will shoot an arrow the 80 yard distance from a 38lb longbow.
Thanks..

Fastflight Plus is fine for Longbows as long as you check with the Bowyer. Fastflight has been dropped now.

We wont see original fast flight again, any one that has it is not likely to give it up either.

I'd have thought fastflite plus, or a number of alternatives such as 8125 etc would be fine, especially if the double looped string has been well 'laid in' at both ends. B50 suffers from being heavy as well as stretchy. Original fastflite was fast because it wasn't stretchy. These high performance strings can also be made with a lower bracing height(up to a point) to improve the cast, as they're less likely to slap the wrist. David

It's an X
Hi,
One of our club members went to Wales Archery last week looking to buy a fastflight string and was told that it was no longer available because NASA had aquired the patent together with all remaining stock.
I have read somewhere that they are planning to use some sort of bow to launch a probe at an asteroid but would they have bought the company just to get some strings. With the money they have available it's possible.

Don't know about that, but they -are- using a vertically mounted crossbow to launch test projectiles for that mission into a barrel of sand, however it uses a half-inch steel cable for a string, not Fastflight
There's a clip on Youtube of it firing, it's quite an impressive beast when it goes off. I posted a link to it on one of the forums, can't remember where or when though.
I'd read on some website that it was the USArmy, not NASA, that did for Fastflight, by declaring that particular type of polymer to be a critical material for defence use. As the song goes, they want it all, and they want it now......
