Something about the bowyer had to learn what the wood "does" from experience, not his book?
Possibly in an early section about selecting wood.

    Sorry, not this time.

In the spring of 1994, Jim Hamm (the editor of Bowyer's Bibles) sent Roy King a copy of vol 3 with his thanks for his help.

No, Roy hadn't contributed or is mentioned in this section of the book.

If you don't have the book, have a guess at the subject matter of the section.

    Good try.

This is not a whole chapter, just a small part of one.

It's not in Paul Comstock's chapters

    Not that one.

In the section we are looking for he underlined over a hundred word in pencil.

He didn't underline a single word in the 'SOME THEORETICAL DESIGNS' section.

    Another very good guess.

The final paragraph (plus a sentence) before the appendices?

Oops just read the question again, make that the start of 'Passing the Torch'
