How much taper on a shaft

I'm just about to make some footed arrows using black walnut. I am considering tapering the arrow shafts but I'm not sure of the profile/s.

Do you taper the fletch end only, or the pile end, or both (barreled). An indication of taper lengths would also be useful. Arrow length is 30". Material is Pine.

Thank you for any help.

Do an internet search re footed/tapered arrow shafts. There are many videos on YouTube which shows how to do them.

Thanks for the reply. I know how to make footed arrows. It's the tapering bit I was asking about.

It depends what you want 'em for!
No actual need to taper at all, but it does look nice :). So the question then is what points and nocks are you using? You'll want to taper at an angle to suit the point and nock.
If you are making your own points and self nocking you can let aesthetics be your guide.
If you are making flight arrows you'll want to taper as much as you dare!
So as they say on QI... "Nobody knows!"
