What should a tapered pile look like?

This is probably a silly question, but I always imagined that a tapered pile would have a cone-shaped cavity in its base (much like a plastic nock). However, I ordered two packs of tapered piles on-line and found that their bases are straight sleeves (tubes, in other words). This is what I imagined parallel piles would look like, but both packs are labelled as tapered piles.

Am I missing something or has someone sent me the wrong type of piles?

Yes, they should have a tapered cavity.
It's happened to me before... the supplier oppologised and sent out replacements pronto... someone had put 'em in the wrong draw.
It can be quite tricky to see the difference unless you have one of each side by side, but a tapered pile should grip onto the tapered shaft if it's lightly twisted on, whereas a parallel will rock about.
