How many strands

Having just read a thread on here I was just wondering

First what material do you use to make your string
Second the weight of you bow and type
Third the number of strands in the string
Forth the reason for your choices

I shoot a 55lb Longbow with a 10 strand fast flight laid in string
I was looking to get more cast out of the bow for filed shoots
I found it worked really well

Nice thread...<groan>
8 strand Dacron on my Hazel (40lb)...can't remember how much Dacron on the longbow.
I mean to get some FF but soooo expensive. :(

8125, 12 strands (padded loops and center serving), Olympic bow, 40lbs on my fingers.

I made the string because my arrows were stiff. I was somewhat skeptical about it working but it did worked very well: with 18 strands bare shafts were hitting 6 or missing (80cm face @ 18m) and with 12 strands they were grouping. I have to repeat the test anytime soon though as I have changed form recently to fix some issues.

I did not notice any loss in stability or shot accuracy, quite the opposite: @30m my scores improved from around 300-310 to 325-335.

Down side: the bow is noisier if I make some mistake (e.g. bad release).
