County selection and the cost of taking part.

    Just a quick note.

I am shooting for Essex in the national team championships at Lilleshall this month and I feel quite lucky to have been selected, I work Saturdays and so for the two day tournament I will take two days holiday and pay for my travel and accommodation and as far as I am aware that is how it has always been. But it would seem that some counties have had a bit of a backlash from archers who think that their county should be paying, I am lucky in that I can afford to pay and I know that some people are not so fortunate but the reality is that the county organisations can't either. As far as I am aware Essex has about 1,600 members and gets about 7.00 for each one so they get around 11,000.00, now Essex is sending seven teams of between 3 and 4 people each, so about 25 in all and if we say 200.00 for each person to cover travel and accommodation that's 5,000.00, or just under half the annual budget.

This is obviously not possible and so unfortunately we must pay our way (as is the norm for most amateur sports).

Just to play devil's advocate, why not? It would seem to be to be a good use of the county money to contribute to costs..........

I don’t see why the county doesn’t contribute towards archers costs - they don’t seem to spend on club development so they need to put the money somewhere.

I only gave an example of one tournament that has about 25 people representing Essex over 2 days, baring in mind that Essex gets about 7.00 per member from AGB, how much would you think they should contribute to each archer?
