Hi folks, I have been lurking on the forum for a while, but not posted anything so first off, hello!! I only took up archery about 6 months ago and have found this site very helpfull in getting to grips with the various complicated aspects of archery.....and spend much time being quite confused but that's probably just me!!
I am off on my hols to France this year and would like to take my recurve bow (takedown) arrows etc but I know there have been some issues with Ryanair in the past. Has anyone flown with them recently and had any problems with taking their archery equipment? I spoke to some eastern eurpoean sounding lady on their "help" line who told me it could just be checked in without any problem and didn't even have to be booked as sports equipment but I distrust Ryanair (only flying with them because they are the only airline that fly anywhere near where we are going and wife doesn't want to drive - gets carsick!) and wondered if anyone could give me any feedback?
Any information greatly appreciated.![]()
Prepare to leave your kit at the airport. By comparison, they make a certain Italian cruiseship captain look honest & honourable
To the brave & the faithful - nothing is impossible

There's nothing in their terms to say it can't be taken as *checked* baggage but I'd be stunned if it wasn't seen as sports equipment, and on that front, £50 each way.
I wouldn't trust anything Ryanair "said" - if it's not in writing, it was never said.
They are an absolute shower, fantastic for cheap travel when you know how to play the game, but as all games have rules you need to play by the rules or come off out of pocket.
Reading the terms and conditions and not having something in writing (and printed out to bring to the airport - both ways) to hold them to, I'd follow the standard terms.
Given a choice between paying Ryanair £100 carry archery kit and packaging it really well and posting it to my destination and home again after for what I expect to be considerably less - I have no doubt which way I'd do it.
Thank Guys. Sadly you have confirmed all of my prejudices about Ryanair. I have looked and I think I could post the riser and arrows for just over £50 return - provided I post a week before I want them - and then just put the limbs and other bits in my luggage. Alternatively I have been offered a riser to borrow in France so I could put my limbs and other bits in one bag, which I can't see looking worrying on the scan, and put the arrows in another one and even if they notice the risk of losing 8 or 10 aluminium arrows is going to be cheaper than the postage!
I hate Ryanair!!
