American Flatbows

Sorry if this subject has been asked before but I'm pretty new to archery.
What category does the American Flatbow come under in GNAS target archery?
I have seen numerous ones with a plastic arrow rest fitted.
Is this correct as I understood it had the arrow shelf on the riser for that purpose?

I think it depends on what flatbow you have. If the string touches the bow limbs once its strung its classed as a recurve, if the string doesn't touch the bow limbs when strung its a barebow, but I could be wrong.

Yes you can but then you will be at a distinct disadvantage when you consider that real barebow recurves could be a top end riser and limbs designed specifically for barebow shooting top end carbon arrows

The american flatbow class is a class for field archery

....an example of forcing people along a route they may not want to go on.

People should be able to shoot what they want & compete on a level playing field.

....next someone'll say ELBs for Victorians & Warbows for war!

It appears to me that AGB are only interested in promoting freestyle recurve and compound. ELB's are reluctantly tolerated so I don't think there's much hope that any other "traditional" bowstyle is going to be recognised for target archery anytime soon unless they become an Olympic event.

Don't forget although there are no records for AFBs held, if a tournament organiser wants to put in an award for AFB what is to stop them doing so. If enough clubs supported AFB as a target discipline, and enough people shot them, they'd be accepted.
