    twisted longbow

    hi all

I am trying to tiller a longbow - I have just got to the bracing it at the normal height & the bow twisted off centre - i presume this is because I have 'tillered' the bow too much at the side causing it to be weak here? I'm using an archers knot which i find a complete pain to adjust as it keeps slipping but could this cause the string to sit off centre or is this wishful thinking?
any ideas how to get the string to follow the centre of the longbow from nock to nock? I thought I was just dealing with the bow flexing equally on each side of the grip - apparently not - also should working from the centre of the bow or where the arrow pass will go?

You may well be too late!
The trick is to leave extra width at the tips until the bow is braced and bending back nicely to about 20". This gives more lateral stability and also allow you to shift the nock over by narrowing the tip from just one side. There are plenty of other things you can do like heat bending etc, but often the fix is a little of A and a little of B !
These two posts from my blog may help show what I mean. Also use the search for heat bending.
