    If there are to be tents left overnight in a public area, with a public road running through it, then "I imagine" that the supporters of the event were warned of the situation by the event organisers. Obviously the organisers, if they are aware that there was a good chance of theft, "Risk Assessment" that they would have arranged at least for some measures to dissuade local opportune thieves from operating in the area, signage, fenced off areas and maybe CCTV. If the supporters of the event were warned then it is obviously their choice as to leaving expensive kit in their tents unattended.

    At the one big shoot I was involved in running, members of the club formed a security team to patrol the ground over night.
