    Disposal of targets

    Evening all,

My club is looking at getting some new layered foam targets to replace our three year old ones, which have arrows passing through them effortlessly. As our storage is limited, we need to at least have a plan in place for disposing of the old ones when the new ones arrive.

What have other people done in the past when it comes to disposing of 130cm square layered foam bosses? Right now I think our best bet is to call our council and get them to take it away as part of bulky waste, but I don’t know how well they’d handle it.

Most councils shred their bulky waste and send it for energy recovery, so foam bosses shouldn't present them with any problems.

Not sure about the finances of your club but should you wish to save a few quid you could dismantle the bosses and take out the shot through portions and replace with good layers from other bosses.
You then re tension with a ratchet strap and either band together with a banding machine or nail/screw back together. You should get a few good bosses back that way.

Slightly related but I’ve just got a Mybo target bag and it’s brilliant. Incredibly easy to pull arrows (my foam target needed serious force) and covered in cool targets. Heavy too so self supporting. Very impressed.

Currently in the process of refurbishing our foamies, the layered ones are getting stripped and the wrecked sections replaced before rebanding. The wrecked bits are simply being taken to our local recycling centre who have a skip for rubber waste that goes to energy waste.

The rebanding is a great economical way to keep targets fresh.
