6 yrs or so ago at lilleshall a GB junior squaddie was shooting the gents fita.

on reaching the target after the practice was done .i had the score board saying are we doing 3 doz each or does someone want to score.

the junior said he didn't trust his adding up and was told by his coach not to pull arrows.

hhhmmmmmm. so that was it steam. ok i said threee options,,,score 3 doz , and pull 9doz score 12 doz, or go home....

he scored and pulled.
he would be about 22 / 23 yrs old now...

had a junior on a target who seemed desperate to score. OK I thought, keen is good - perhaps labour educational dumbing down is over blown. Only problem was he couldnt count.
We had repeated c0ck-ups in the scoring ... the judge had used so much red ink correcting the score sheet you'd think someone had slashed their wrists over it.
I was going to suggest he pull rather than score ..... and then I wondered why he so desperately wanted to score rather than pull. Me and my brand new navs decided we'd live with the errant scoring rather than face the unknown.

why was it you.......

after posting on another thread it cropped up in my brain of archery misdermeanors
Sorry, just had a little trouble getting the 'jist' of your original post. are you saying you got angry and made the junior do all the pulling and all the scoring - it's a little unclear.

all through the indoor season :poulies:women/kids shooting compounds into straw bosses and are unable to pull there own arrows.
My motto is if you can?t pull, it don?t shoot it expect others to do if for you.
the only time i don't mind is when i am shooting with an archer with disabilies and no being a lazy git is not a disablity

Why all the fuss. ARE YOU SO SELFISH THAT YOU WON'T HELP SOMEONE WHO IS STRUGGLING.
I belong to a small, friendly club with members from 8 to 80+. We all take turns in pulling arrows, even the juniors. If someone is having problems with an arrow one of us will step up behind him or her and add an extra hand. I'm 5ft 2ins and take my turn pulling arrows but there is no way can I reach any arrows that have gone in the top of the boss, it's no problem, I step back and one of the taller members takes over. Myself and my family are new to archery but I have not come across a more friendly or helpful group of people in any other club or organisation. Everyone mucks in in whatever we are doing, setting up, pulling arrows, looking for lost arrows, problems/coaching, packing away for the night. WE HELP EACH OTHER, end of story.

If you knew me you would not need to ask this question!

No problem with this. It is those who don?t even offer or say I may hurt my shoulder pulling.

I am talking more about this happening at competitions rather than at my club.
You are in it to win it or do the best you can , if you are getting fatigued by pulling someone else?s arrows and dropping points due to it is this fair?
I DON?T THINK SO.

I'm with Phil on this, just try and be accommodating and spread goodwill. I think everyone usually does the best they can to to share arrow pulling but if ladies and kids need help, well just be grateful that you are fit and strong enough to be able to help.

I shot a national field comp not long ago where I was in a group with three compound ladies. After a couple of targets it became clear they were going to struggle pulling arrows, so being a reasonably fit 50+ guy I asked if they would like me to pull all the arrows. They were very grateful for the offer and although I wasn't having a very good shooting day I enjoyed their company and felt good about being able to help.

Spread a little kindness, be nice to each other.

Pete, you should have left his arrows in the target and his running score unadded up!! If he doesn't want to do anyone elses why should everyone else do his??

the junior said he didn't trust his adding up and was told by his coach not to pull arrows.

pete
And I agree with you about if you put them in there you should be able to get them out. As someone who shoots a 57lb compound I know that my arrows can get stuck in the target pretty good (FMJ's in wet danage = stuck arrow) and I wouldn't dream of letting others pull my arrows if I knew they were going to be a problem.

So lets get this straight. You bullied a junior into scoring when he didn't feel confident enough, and into pulling his arrows when (perhaps for a very good reason) he'd been advised by his coach not to. Union, Trueheart and Courtesie indeed

have to say this is a weird thread.

In my limited experience of shooting in comps I am always pleased if someone wants to score cause my adding up is painful. As a result I will often pull more that not. But happy for it to work in many ways. But can't say I really give it much thought - I will help others out when their arrows get stuck or they just can't pull them. Being a club with a large number of compounders there is always someone needing help to pull an arrow or two anyway.

NDY think you need to get over it fella - life's too short.

NDY - sounds like a good way to get rid of kids in archery there Pete!

most off you are missing the point. you all muck in GREAT.

i've gone home many times from westerns and americans where there's been me 2 women and a junior shooting on brand new italian straw bosses...

and i've gladly pulled 24 arrows an end for 8 doz. and ended up with blisters

point was a junior from GB squad shooting a senior round at a WRS shoot, refusing to do anything.......WRONG OPTION YOUNG MAN...

I may have mentioned before, at one of our shoots there was a young lad shooting a compound, who wasn't strong enough to pull his own arrows, but he did volunteer to score, unfortunately his target companions were an elderly,80+ gentleman and a sub 5foot lady, neither of whom could pull his arrows either, as T/O i felt it fell to me to pull his arrows rather than ruin the day for all.
