Whats good? Whats not? How long would I have to wait to get my hands on the pretties? Are there any shops in the south that specialise?

All/any info appreciated (as long as its horsebow related!:raspberry)

Grozer in Hungary does some of the best. AIUK'er Uller has a house full of the things and there are several aiuk'ers who sing grozers praises.
Wait time isnt bad and you pay via bank transfer. The bows are "customable" in that each basic shape can have bells whistles and exciting leatherwork added.
For the thick of wallet there are versions with compressed sinew and real horn.

Yeah I saw a few of those, look pretty much the ticket. Just wondered what else was out there...

I got my hungarian from a bloke in Hungary via Ebay.

A number of customisable options were availble - leather & stiching colour.

Bow cost me ?90 shipped from Hungary & took about a week.

Its probably not the best quality in the world, but it does the job!!!

A set of Hex5's on a 12" riser would make a nice horsebow :D :duck:

The Samick SKB is a cheap and cheerful choice if you're not too fussed about exact draw weights. I use one in the wet for when putting together my full recurve would be a pain or when I've only got a short time to shoot.

Love my SBK. It was my rehab bow (a mere 30lbs draw weight at 30") and is now what I venture into the woods with for field. If you want to dabble without spending a lot of dosh, this is the puppy for you

Sweet!

Any ideas what poundage I should aim for? Atm I am pulling about 32#. What distances would say 38# get me to?

38# would probably still get you to 90m.....your arrows may hit the target covered in ice though!!!!

My Hungarian is marked @ 50# (hold #44 with recurve), then drawn to 31". Never actually measured the weight @ full draw.

The Hun style bows are very sweet to draw, and don't feel their weight IMHO.

I reckon to could got up to 45# with out any probs....

I've got a Flagella Dei Magyar reflex. I love it, and half of the guys who've tried it (recurvers and wheelie chaps) want one. Many horsebows are not finished that well under the leather- this one ain't either. I don't mind that because they are cheap. My wheelie mate is spending more on a bowcase than I spent on my bow. I did remove the leather and refinish it with silk ribbon though.
