[Horsebow] Horse Bow vs Recurve for the beginner.

Hi

I'm looking to buy my first bow after tying it out a few times at various game fairs etc. I have narrowed down my choices between a Horse Bow and a one piece recurve. I will be mostly using it for back garden plinking/stump shooting and I would also like to try out field archery at some stage. Any advice is most appreciated.

Thanks for looking.

I think a horsebow will be more fun and allow you to get in touch with your inner Genghis Khan - but I am definitely biased!

If you are serious about competing in field then you should however bear in mind that with a horsebow you will probably be shooting in the hunting tackle category against people with recurves and you will be at a bit of a disadvantage with a horsebow.

if you're already thinking of trying out Field Archery, why not contact your local Field club? There you could perhaps find some nice folks that would let you try both one piece recurves and horsebows before you decide which you'd prefer to splash your cash on.
Like Dorset Lass, I would recommend horsebows. They're a lot of fun!

Thanks for all the advice, I must admit I'm leaning towards the horsebow as I got the completive bug out my system with Field Target years ago and now I'm just looking to have some fun. I will send a email to my local Field Archery clubs and see if I can pop along one weekend.

O.K. you asked for advice here is mine Don't shoot in your garden, A quick search on here will bring up loads of threads all about why you shouldn't.
As to which bow to buy my advise there is to get yourself to your nearest club join a beginners course not only will get a good grounding in the basics of archery but you will more than likely find members of the club shooting the kind of bows you are interested in and most people are more than willing to chat about their bows and some will even let you try them :)
Plus clubs are a much more sociable fun way to enjoy your archery than going it alone

As you've already been an archer you'll know the pitfalls of home shooting and as english_archer, and I hinted at before, a visit to an established club might be a wise move.

Above all welcome back to shooting

I was talking about Field Target air rifle shooting. but I can see the downsides to home archery.
