Gillo or Uukha

I have a Gillo GT 25" riser and am looking to replace my SF Ultimate Pro Limbs with something more modern.

The ones on my radar are Gillo GTL88 or Uukha UX100 (I'd like the VX1000 but cost is to high).

The Uukha's are a proven limb for string walking and universally liked my many BB and OR archers.

The Gillo's are designed for the GT riser and the amount of adjustment it has, but very new and somewhat unproven.

Has anyone shot both and have some opinions to share.

I apologize for this post in advance as I have neither shot either of the limbs, although I do shoot a Gillo riser. I will watch you request with great interest.

I did notice Gillo have 4lb weight increments, obviously playing on the wide adjustment of the GT.
I looked at the specification of the GTL88 when they came out and I cannot see anything that really separates them from the other carbon/foam limbs on the market, especially at the price, possibly except for the curve.

Of course everyone will say you need to shoot both and see which you prefer, and I couldn't agree more. Personally if I were buying blind, and some of us have no choice, I would go with the Uukka's (or win&win at the same price have some stunning limbs).

Oh and I know that none of us care what our equipment looks like but DAMM! Gillo, you REALLY need a graphics designer for your limbs. A bit of white space wouldn't go amiss. Credit to Uukha, they have nailed the graphic look of their limbs.
And that's from a Gillo fan/shooter, just not their limbs:)

My issue is that nowhere even remotely local has both in stock, so no chance of back to back comparison.

The GTL88's are made by W&W to Gillo's design, so should still be quality limbs.

I'll be shooting some 38# VX1000 X curve mounted to a G1 on Saturday, I have a feeling this will sway my mind, but I suppose it's like driving a BMW 530 and then ordering a 320, it just wont be the same thing.

I still need to sell off some of my old equipment to raise the rest of the funds, so I'm still a few weeks off placing an order.

I agree with you about the graphics, Uukha's look great but the GTL's are a bit in your face.

That doesn't surprise me. Neither are market leaders but uukha are very free with their manufacturing process and they are a significant break from normal limb technology.

Is that right? I had no idea. I work with both Korean and Chinese manufacturers and I would take Korean over Chinese every time. They may come from either country as I believe (not substantiated) that W&W manufacture in both.
I did look at uukha for my G2K but as it is only my "indoor/back garden" bow I decided I didn't need to spend the extra and went for dirt cheap.

The uukha limbs are smooth to pull back all the way through the draw regardless of the model chosen, the Gillo limbs are closer to the feel of a W&W limb (especially the original Inno - IMO) a little bit heavier as you pull back the last 9" - so if you like smooth and all the benefits of the monolith limb go uukha, if you want to stay with what you know in terms of a laminated limb go with Gillo, neither will let you down.
What is not in question is both are of a very high manufacturing quality some of the best I see in the industry. The other day I received a GT and GTL88 limbs and needed to set it up for a customer - there was nothing to do (other than fit accessories) Vittorio and Michele had already done it/checked it) and made sure everything was perfectly straight (riser and limbs). Not only makes set up easier but that confidence (both from Gillo and uukha) that it has really been checked before shipping from the factory makes my life a lot easier.

Thank you Whitehart, that's really useful.
I've not shot modern W&W limbs, however from what I remember SF were/are W&W and my Ultimate Pro limbs were the same as mid range W&W at the time, so should feel somewhat similar.
I'll see if I like the feel of the Uukha's on Saturday and make a decision.
There's a chance that what I have to sell off may make enough cash to fund some VX1000 x curve if I do go Uukha.

You just missed my old 36lb VX1000's on eBay, sold on Sunday....
One thing to bear in mind, the X curve are the super recurve type, personally i didn't like the feel of them, so went for the normal curve profile.... I don't think there is a better limb manufacturer anywhere than uukha.....

I have three sets of Uukha limbs, A set of the VX1000 Xcurves fitted to a Smartriser, which used to be my OR set up, but which is now used for barebow. I also have two sets of their 3D archery limbs, a set of the Saiga, which are on my spare bow, and I'm currently using some Irbis limbs ( the 3D X curve profile) in my Border Covert ILF Ultra. I absolutely love the feel of the X curve limbs, which I know is a personal thing, but I did have a set of Hex 7 but just couldn't get a decent tune on my field bow with them, I knew I loved my X curves on the OR, so switching to the Irbis was obvious and I have to say was the best move I have made.

I would personally never use a different brand than Uukha now. They are so well constructed that they'll probably see me out. But if they were stolen tomorrow I would be straight on the phone to order some more. I would almost be tempted to buy some spare sets in case they ever went out of production!

Thank you Whitehart, now that is interesting. uukha for completely different construction or GTL for more conventional design, which compete with many others on the market. That's a tough market for Gillo at that price point, especially with an apparent lack of marketing material to back them up. Mind you, Gillo don't appear to be ones to oversell themselves.

Some UX100 38# medium can up on ebay, I made an offer and it's been accepted, so I now have (or will do soon) a set of Uukha's to make up the classic Bare Bow Gillo GT, Uukha limbs, Zniper rest, Beiter button rig.

Thanks for all your input guys
