Any ideas for home made target

Hi All I currently use a layered foam target for my compound and crossbows. However, i wish to practice with broadheads, not for hunting, just for the fun of it. So does anyone have any suggestions for a home made target, that will let me retrieve the fixed broadheads. Thanks

Hi I noticed while buying sheep food at local farm supply outlet, they have bales of tightly packed wood shavings, may give that a try.

Serious response... how about sand? If it is slightly damp there would be little pour out of a hole.
If it leaks, one or two layers of the foam from your usual target just inside the bag should keep most if the sand inside.

Have done this with old duvets. Pack into a plastic bag and remove air with vacuum cleaner. Wrap packs in strong woven type material and secure tight. When 1st arrows release vacuum, material stays very compressed as held by outer covering. Inner plastic stops some water ingress f left outside until well punctured. Unfortunately doubt if they would be suitable for easy removal of broadheads as asked about by original poster due to fibrous nature of material.

Arrows zip straight through sandbags. It would take a surprising amount to stop an arrow, so much you'd have a good chance of losing the arrow in the sand.

That's true. Todd of Todds Workshop on youtube did a Mythbusters type episode on this; sandbags were stopping bullets wheras arrows were shooting through.

dry sand works better than wet sand by about x6.
A large cardboard box with a thin rubber face stuffed with old rags should work well. Long thin strips seem to be the best shape as they slow the projectile by tangling themselves around the arrow and each other. Used for bullet recovery when water tank not apppropriate.

I picked up a load of towels from a local dog grooming place. They chuck them out all the time. Today I rolled them real tight. Haven't used it yet, but I think it'll be great. Maybe broadheads will be hard to take out, but this was free, and they were gonna chuck them out, so saves them going in a skip for the time being!
