Border hex 5 riser help!

Hello everyone...my husband bought a set of Border Hex 5 limbs and we are trying to find what height riser to get. He bought them on a whim and didn’t get any other info!
The limbs say 70”/25” 38#. I’m hoping I can use them...I’m almost 6’ tall and 38 is a good weight for me.
Can anyone help with what riser we should be looking to get? Any other info on these would be appreciated also. Thanks!

With a 25” riser you’ll get 38# - shorter riser less poundage and a longer riser more poundage.

What bow or riser do you have at the moment? If you are new to recurve then 38# limbs are not what I’d recommend& in my experience Hex limbs aren’t the most forgiving to shoot either.

Are you planning to shoot barebow or sighted recurve, target or field ? Different risers suit some disciplines better than others.

Thanks! I’m very new to archery. I’ve been shooting my husbands 40# Damon Howatt...but I’d like slightly less poundage. It’s bare bow and I’ve just been shooting outside at a target.
Do you have any recommendations on risers? We don’t have a takedown bow so don’t know anything about what risers to look for or are better. Thanks

Other way round - shorter riser = higher poundage.

25” riser is a pretty much kind of ‘standard’.
I agree with above comments - if you are new to shooting then it is better to use lighter poundage…. It is not about your strength , it is about shooting (posture, technique, etc)… it doesn’t exclude that you are strong enough even for 40-45#… but remember , avoid injury….

Watch for dings on the edges of the limbs. They like a brace height about 1/2" lower than a conventional limb, not as low as modern Borders, and you might need a slightly longer string than a conventional limb to achieve that.
No idea how old they are or what abuse they've seen but in their day the HexV was scorching. Set a world record with mine.

May it be worth checking the fitting? If they're from a Black Douglas may they not be bolt down?

The limbs look like new....no scratches or dings. They are ilf. Any recommendations on risers? Or any 25” ilf will do.
We have a local Boyer that will make a string for us...anything we should mention to him besides 1/2” less brace height? Do number of strands matter?

You won't go wrong with a Gillo for barebow, GT if you can afford it

Suggest you drop an email to Sid at border archery they made the limbs.
Not the best plan just now, they are on their annual 2 week factory shut down. And often don't have time to answer questions about historic product, but they do try.

What is your budget? Are you happy with secondhand or is new the aim? I'd look for something with lots of deflex and with more weight lower down or options for weighting lower down. I have a Border Tempest: designed primarily as a barebow riser, it's a work of art. They aren't the cheapest, but you can pick them up secondhand. They are straight, and have a very good limb alignment system. I could wax lyrical for some time, blah blah blah...

Assuming they are ILF, Gillo G1. It’s a really good combination with my Hex5’s

We did message Border bows a few weeks ago but didn’t get a reply. That’s when I looked around and found this forum!
Secondhand is just fine. Is there a good site to find secondhand risers?
