    Danish Oil Finish

About 7 years ago a club member made some wooden arrows for our beginners courses, finishing them with Danish Oil. They still feel slightly sticky.

    Flight Archery

The Flight subgroup of Archery GB (or it might be of Northern Counties) is offering similar opportunities to have flight archery taster sessions at your club, using flu-flu arrows. Contact Yvonne Stead at Archery GB for more info.

    Oops... Current good extenders...?

The Doinker Suppression Mount is a good extender, and unlikely to fail. Also unlikely to be an actual suppression mount.

    Compound bows - UK refurbisher?

Merlin have that capability. But the cost could approach that of a decent second-hand bow, especially if the finish is anodised rather than painted.

    Tell bosses - your experiences

We have several Tell bosses. After just one season's outdoor use, the centres are pretty much shot out. This is a bit of a shock - we've had several years of use out of Pro Boss and Danage bosses. What are the experiences of other clubs with Tell bosses, please?

    Removing glued fletchings from carbon

Very late on this, but I'd recommend Loctite Glue Remover. Cut off as much fletching as you can without risking contact between blade and carbon. Spread Glue Remover onto and around the area of the fletches. Wrap each shaft loosely with tissue paper and secure loosely with lazzie bands. Stand...

    NFAS VIP membership.... Spam/phishing?

The likelihood of it being anything other than hacking of the site is very low. It could be something like the hacking of a committee member's email, but it's far more likely that they've left FTP enabled.

New - Archery GB Annualized Renewals

Some of us have suspected for a few years that AGB wanted to turn clubs into semi-commercial archery providers. There are multiple problems with that, especially if AGB is not up-front with clubs about their intentions. And, we sometimes have to refuse membership to individuals on safety...

Why did you switch to compound???????

That's actually the other way round to my experience. I haven't done much with longbow, but I've certainly noticed the need to know each arrow's characteristics and make all sorts of adjustments for conditions. With recurve, I had a huge number of form and equipment aspects to coordinate. I find...

    Clogged Adhesive Tube

I use Fletchtite on aluminium and have never had a problem with it clogging - I've got to the end of every tube I've used. But much seems to depend on how it was stored before it got to you. Distributors and retailers may store it in conditions which are too hot or too cold, either of which will...

Why did you switch to compound???????

I have a life-long problem with arthritis, and it simply became too bad in my left shoulder to sustain a recurve under full draw. The compound's let-off allowed me to continue with archery.

    Screw in tips/blunts?

Please don't assume blunts are safer than points! They are still designed to kill, but by shock rather than bleeding. Range safety is the important thing. I've experimented with screw-in blunts and found them somewhat rickety - the ones on the market are of mediocre quality and unscrew very...

Are you still booking in to tournaments?

I'm seeing an increasing level of nervousness among TOs, and some cancellations. I expect there'll be a load more. But outdoor archery tournaments are very low-risk environments for transmission. The combination of fresh air, little physical contact and a reasonable separation makes virus...

    insurance

No, you won't be covered in this case. The insurance covers activities within AGB-affiliated clubs or the AGB "environment", plus promotional-type activities at schools or in the community where the activity has been approved by the AGB-affiliated club's committee. There are some further...

Old sniper trick : use the tall finger on the trigger.

It's also a good tip when using a saw - lay the index finger against the side of the saw rather than wrapping it around the handle, and you'll tend to cut straighter.

    Bow fishing

There are all sorts of word-of-mouth stories about what laws apply to archery, and I've repeated a few of them on AIUK myself. But there's actually no law about distance from areas the public can access. You can shoot anywhere with the landowner's permission, but you have the usual legal...

I've usually received the Archery GB subscription renewals pack by now, but ain't seen noffink yet. Have I missed a memo? Does anyone know whether packs will be sent out this time?

    AGB director remuneration

Seen the 2017 AGB accounts? http://www.archerygb.org/about-us-structure-safeguard/about-us/governance/archery-gb-statutory-accounts/ Remuneration for directors increased from ?29834 in 2016 to ?139400 in 2017 - an increase of 467%. I can feel the benefit to the sport already.
