    Etiquette/gamemanship

I was at a competition recently. The shooting was in double detail. I noticed that a couple were shooting on the alternate detail to each other and when one was shooting they would, after every shot, turn back to look at their partner, who was using a spotting scope from just behind the waiting...

    Calories burnt in field archery.

I know a couple of people who, when asked by their GP what exercise they do. have mentioned archery and been told "that doesn't count". The GPs have obviously never shot a York or Hereford round, let alone field archery.

    Bow from a bike wheel

Is it not actually a catapult rather than a bow as the power is coming from springs rather than the limbs?

    “Less is more” limb’s poundage?

I think the key here is your phrase "you feel comfortable with". Why would you shoot a poundage lower than one you're comfortable with? I also shoot barebow and am well into my 60s having been over 60 when I took up archery. I pull 40 pounds on my fingers. Is that high? Or low? There are...

    Bow weight for longer distances

A young woman at my club regularly achieves good scores at 100 yards shooting 30lbs.

    Mass shooting with bow...

My club (which describes itself as an archery club) has recently started allowing crossbow shooters. Not a popular decision with a large minority of members.

    garden set up advice please!

In the UK compound bows are legal but use of them other than at a dedicated club, with few exceptions, is illegal.

Archery shops - Are they taking the mick? (Online orders)

But do you go to the bricks and mortar shop to look and try and then buy online because it's a couple of quid cheaper?

Armex blue and carbon arrows :-/

Is that "The Range" that sells everything household from plates to paddling pools to BBQs (and everything in between) or an archery shop?

From the Lions' Den - A freestylers' journey.

I've never flown anything that I could claim to be "loggable" but I've been up in a Tiger Moth (the pilot pulled it out of the hangar by lifting the tail and pulling it with one hand), Britten-Norman BN-2 Islanders in New Zealand and some Twin Otter seaplanes in the Maldives. Seaplanes...

    Arrows making a noise

You never faced Steve Harmison in the Ashes then. You know, the first ball that went to second slip !

    Arrows making a noise

Anyone that's played cricket will attest to the noise that a cricket ball, even at "military medium" pace, makes as it goes past you when you're batting. The noise from a genuinely quick bowler is a scary thing. Anything moving through the air at speed makes a noise.

From the Lions' Den - A freestylers' journey.

My school, late 60s early 70s, was full of "old officer" types. There was a history teacher called George Offler. Of course he got christened Offler the Waffler. It was a recognised tactic to get him talking about his days in the army to sidetrack him from what we should have been learning...

From the Lions' Den - A freestylers' journey.

I first encountered a Mossie many years ago when my dad took me to the Shuttleworth collection more years ago than I care to remember (late 60s?). We were driving through hedge lined country lanes in the family Triumph Herald when there was a growling roar and a Mosquito shot across the road at...

    Seeing it before you answer.

what is it about carbon foam?

Forgive my ignorance, on a steep learning curve here, but how would the laminates in a longbow work then, being glued together.
  19. steve

what is it about carbon foam?

I can't see how "foam" of any sort has a place in limbs. Foam's function is to take up space. Good for insulation, but not for strength/elasticity.
