    Tell us about your Achievements

Last event of the season: BHAA National Championships. I won the Hungarian and Korean events and was second in the Mamluk, which was good for overall champion for the second year running. The country's only other mounted Ghillie Dhu user came 6th in the Korean. We're spreading... The...

    Tell us about your Achievements

After 10 events in 3 national stages over 6 months, Team GB (captained by yours truly wielding his trusty Ghille Dhu) finished second in the European Horseback Archery Grand Prix Series. We had a comfortable lead over 3rd placed Sweden and were the only country to beat the Poles in any event...

    Line cutters at an angle

This situation doesn't really arise in target archery but could do in field and it's something that arose this weekend in an international horseback archery match, so I thought I'd seek views. We had an arrow that was shot at an acute angle towards the target. It hit and stuck in the target...

[Warbow] Warbow shooting as a martial art

I'm curious as to whether anybody shooting a warbow consists it to be a martial art (being undoubtedly the sporting practice of a military skill)? If so, why? If not, why not? And at what weight would you consider it to become a martial art?

Different point weights for XX75 and X7

From what I can see, aluminium arrows like the X7 Eclipse and the XX75 platinum plus do not have the variety of point weights that carbons have. Anybody know whether different weights are made at all, or whether you're just stuck with what you get? Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk

    GB v Holland Horseback Archery

Over the weekend of 24th-25th May 2014 the Dutch will be bringing a team to compete in a triangular competition against GB and GB Development. It promises to be a good weekend of competition, with 2 events per day of fast-moving action, worthy of the cover of Quicks' catalogue! The event is...

    NFAS Thumb Release

I've just been looking at the shooting style rules for NFAS. I shoot a horsebow using thumb release and from what I can see that puts me in freestyle! My bow is a Border Ghillie Dhu, which is not all natural materials so I can't shoot primitive. HT says only !Mediterranean release is allowed...

    Licence to teach

Is anybody aware of any EU or domestic law requiring a licence to teach archery? A Hungarian chao I know insists that EU law requires one but it's not something I've come across. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Wanted Easton X7 Blue. 2014. 29.5" or longer.

I'll consider one spine either side as well.

    Eclipse or Platinum Plus

I'm going to be shooting short ranges: mainly 10-15m, up to 50m max. At my spine 2114, the X7 Eclipse and the XX75 P+ (or the cool firey Tributes) weigh the same but the Eclipse is twice the price. Worth it or not?

    [Horsebow] Border Ghillie Dhu

I put the Ghillie Dhu through its paces round the field course today. Behold:

    FMJ v Eclipse

I'm considering new arrows. The main contenders are Eclipses and FMJ (want high quality but no carbon outer). The eclipses are something like 1mm wider and 6grn heavier at the size I would be using. I can't see that this is going to make a huge difference to speed, range or flight path...

    [Horsebow] Horseback Archery in Hertfordshire

This is not intended as advertising, but people have previously posted wanting details of places to learn horseback archery and many were disappointed when the Centre of Horseback Combat moved to Wales. Well, they've now moved back to civilisation. Hemel Hempsted, to be precise. I believe...

    Thanks

Big thank you to Sid Jnr and everyone at Border who gave me and my wife a tour of the workshop on Wednesday. A couple of fascinating hours seeing every detail of production. "Wow" doesn't come close! I learned an awful lot about how bows are made, how they shoot and some of the crucial...

    Define "Traditional Bow"

This is a question I am asking in various places: how would you define "traditional bow"? Is a traditional bow one that is made in traditional materials to traditional designs with no modifications? Is it just any bow that has no cables, wheels or sights (I'm told that in America an Olympic...

[Warbow] Mediaeval Longbows - Horn Nocks or Not?

I know that (at least according to HArdy, whom I trust on it) the Mary Rose bows had horn nocks. My question is whether the bows used at Crecy, Poitiers and Agincourt had horn nocks or were self nocked?

[English Longbow] Longbow for a Collector

One for the ELB community: I've just returned from staying with a chap in the US who, apart from being one of the great men of modern horseback archery, collects bows of various sorts. I want to send him a longbow, since he doesn't have one. Now, he doesn't collect museum pieces - his bows...

    British Horseback Archery Association Championships

As promised on a different thread, I announce rather belatedly that the British Horseback Archery Association Championships 2011 will be held at the Centre of Horseback Combat in Vines Cross, East Sussex on 22nd and 23rd October. Fourteen competitors will compete in 3 events: Hungarian style...

[Horsebow] Horsebow Archers - New Round

The British Horseback Archery Association have created a new round specifically for practising for horseback archery. I thought I'd let you guys know about it as it's good fun to shoot and is something a bit different. We're going to hold a small online league but a large part of what we're...

    Purpleheart

My local timber merchant have announced that they won't stock purpleheart any more because it is endangered. Anyone else seen this?
