Decut 120 Click

Anybody had any use out of one of these sights? Opinions?

I'm looking to replace my Cartel sight that has shaken to pieces after about 2 months use.. and before anyone recommends Sure-loc's etc, the simple fact is I can't afford something like that at present. :sigh:

Cheers..

Has it shaken to bit as in broken, or just bits coming loose? I have a very expensive compound sight and the same vital screw can back off to almost gone in a couple of hours. Sometimes you need to use loctite or a thin wrap of plumbers ptfe tape may help.
Just because a sight is expensive doesn't mean it will be hugely better than a cheap one if subjected to the same stresses.
The sight you are looking for is still a cheap sight and may or may not do what you want but I'd suggest looking to reduce shock to the sight, lock down everything with loctite and get a top sight even used whan you can justify the cost.
My concern is you will end up with 2 cheap sights falling to bits.

Yeah I know what you mean, with hindsight (no pun intended).. a few precautions might have saved me a few quid, embarrassingly I never noticed the problem with my current sight until it was too late, and I've lost 2 of the knurled thumb screws that lock various bits in place. I can replace the screws with ordinary screws, but it means taking a driver to them if I need to make adjustments.. not very practical.

You might be able to source replacement thumb screws from an engineering supplies store, just do a google search, a lot of machinery uses this type of screw for parts that need to be removed on a regular basis.

Cheers, Jim.

I have been having problems with bits falling off through vibration as well. Just went to assemble my bow and the detent pin, spring, washer and screw were missing from one of my limbs:-(

My cheapo sight also falls apart if I don't remember to tighten the thumb screws every few shots. I ave just ordered the Decut 120 from bowsports (cheaper) so I will let you know how I get on with it.

So, how's it going with the new sight? I'm assuming you've got it by now? What's the first impressions.. cheap tat or quality bargain?
Reason i was attracted to it, was I have a Decut finger tab.. and I think it's great (and a bargain to boot), so I figured perhaps they might have made an intermediate winner here?

So I was the shop today and bought the Decut on a whim (for the grand sum of about ?48) to replace my increasingly annoying Cartel Championship sight. I'll be shooting it for the first time tomorrow, so I'll give my first impressions and why I bought it.

Obviously, this is a sight built to a budget, and tellingly, you can see where they cut costs (and why this is good). It's based on the Sure-Loc design, using the old style asymmetric mounting block and a dual rail sort-of-no-lock elevation bar with a quick-swap sight pin holder. So the bad points - it's painted, not anodised; there is no scale for windage on the sight block; the elevation strips are not calibrated to the click adjustment correctly and it's heavy. My goodness it's heavy, even compared to the fairly portly sure-loc it's based on, let alone an Ultima Carbon or a Dual Click. I had to add another 25g to my left short rod.

The upside of all this, is that unlike the cartel or SF imitations it's built like a tank. The elevation uses an oversized steel rail, and the tolerances between the sight block and the bar are pretty tight, with what seems like some sort of low-friction padding for a really smooth action. The micro-click items themselves are a little crude and clunky, but you can feel that the springs are of a good tension and it doesn't seem like there's much scope for it to fly apart. There are nice touches, like the fixed-rotation locking knob for the windage, which clicks home tightly and satisfyingly at either end and allows you to move the whole block without the microadjust. I neglected to check if the Sure-Loc pin holder will fit, but it seems to be pretty much the same design, so I will try and look tomorrow.

The sight pin itself I'm not so sure about - it's a translucent plastic with a rather large fluo-orange blob in the middle. I shall see what it's like tomorrow, but will probably go back to the Beiter apertures.

On the whole, I'm happy to accept the weight and the fact that there are about 12.5 clicks between elevation marks if it stays solid and with good movement. It seems like a good interim until I can afford an Ultima or the long lusted-after Angel and to be quite honest, if it works, a full no-lock micro click sight for under ?50 is a bloody bargain, and just what the sight market needs.

Now that I've shot it a couple of times, my thoughts have proved pretty much accurate. No vibration issues I can sense with it attached to the 5.99, adjustments all worked happily, I'm getting new sight tapes to fix the inaccurate scale (PM me if anyone wants the .png files for scales at 300 dpi), all seems well. Haven't checked the sure loc aperture holder yet, will do that in the shop tomorrow I think.

If it explodes on me at any point, AIUK will be the first to know. Lovely stuff

I am please with it on the whole. It seems very well made and I have had few problems with it apart from a grub screw coming loose from one of the micro knobs so I would go over the whole site and loc-tite any non moving threads before using the site. OK it is not a top end site but for a fifth of the price I am happy with it and it has really improved my enjoyment of the sport as a beginner. For ?45 it punches well above it's weight.

Taking one a part the otherday the grub screws are doubled up so the one you see is just a locking grub not the one doing the work.

Just bought a Decut 120.. moved up from a Cartel 2000. Being new to archery I've not had the luxury of using an expensive sight yet. Well I noticed a big big difference, everything feels solid and reliable and the range of adjustments are excellent.
Many of the other lads at the club scrutinised it and a few have said they intend to purchase one also. At ?44 from Merlin one heck of a bargain

Bought a Decut sight after seeing one somebody had bought from Bowsports at the club. I reasoned it was so much for the money that if there were any issues I could probably fix them in my workshop (like many of the issues with my old Cartel sight).

Only issue he found was the knobs dropping off as the grub screws come undone - seems the only real issue from what we've seen.

When I got mine home I got the Loc-Tite blue nut-lock out and dealt with all the grub screws before I had the problem and not had it since.
Just a note here - when people say Loc-Tite I hope they don't assume we are talking about super-glue. Loc-Tite nut lock is a specialised engineering adhesive for the job. The blue version is what you want as this can be disassembled later. The red version sets like stone and can only be separated using quite a bit of heat. The green version is similar to the blue but is intended to be applied to threads AFTER assembly. Issue with this is it can seep past the threads and into the rest of the gubbins behind gluing that together too - not good for a sight that is intended to move!

Anyway - been shooting with the new sight for a couple of months now and got a decent set of sight marks for it.
It's very, very good.
Consistent, quiet (no rattles or vibes), elevation is nicely adjustable between free-slide, click-adjust, and locked, windage is easily adjustable using either the click-adjust for fine adjustment or winding the sight pin in and out for more radical adjustments.

Only things I have noticed that are sub-optimal are:
- the sight block is slightly odd having two dovetails one side (bottom?) and one the other (top?), and the three are arranged to give the best support for left handed usage. Two either side like the Sure-loc (which it is pretty obviously ripped off from) would be better.
- the sight pin is not to my taste being clear, square and with a day-glo orange centre pin. Used the one from my old Cartel instead as they use the same thread (10-32?) and I'm a happier bunny.
- the sight pin very occasionally comes loose - but not often enough for me to do anything about it. Either a small spring or a short stack of O rings would fix this.
- indentations in the extension arm that the thumbscrew in the sight block engages with are surprisingly shallow, but do work.

Robski, I bought me of these sights and I'm well pleased with it so far.
Regarding the sight pin and clear plastic - didn't like that either!
Solution - got a drill the same DIA as the hole that the pin is mounted in and drilled the pin out, then painted the clear plastic matt black. Vast improvement IMHO.
Recently bought Archers Advantage (I also shoot compound) and have tried to produce sight tapes for my recurve/Decut but dont seem to be able to get the scale length right for the sight bar. Could be lack of familiarity with the software. Anyone any experience re Decut/AA?
