laminate longbows start to finish

These are the steps I take when making a laminated long bow
For the more observant of you out their you will spot the pictures are of two different bows but the steps are the same
Selecting the timber I take a lot of time over this making sure I have good grain and moisture content is at the right level

The timber here is Ash,Purplehart,Lemonwood
Have sorted the timber and how I am going to cut it I start to cut the laminates

This is the Purplehart

I have cut it 3mm thicker then I want ready for sanding. I then check the moisture content again you can get a lot of difference from the out side of the plank to the inside. If it is to high it is time to stop and let it dry out as long as it takes to get down to the right level. I never force dry my timber. If there is one thing to learn about bow make is to take your time and not rush
These are the three pieces for a bow ready for sanding

I use a bench sander with a 80 grit belt. Taking my time I work each piece down to the required thickness needed. I would suggest practice with the sander before you start on a bow holding the timber flat and getting the laminate parallel takes practice.

I will have to try again later as pictures dont seem to have uploaded
