I would have agreed if it were not up to host countries to decide what sports they wish to introduce and the fact that the Olympics had not just added 18 events and 474 athletes in:I think one of the biggest hurdles is how do you explain to the IOC that you want to increase participation by 128 archers when they are already struggling to keep athlete numbers down.
Out of all the archery disciplines I would agree with this, even though I don't shoot field.IMO.
If you want to put another archery sport in the Olympics make it Barebow field...
though those are what used to be called "demonstration sports*" having been picked by the local Olympic committee and have no guarantee of appearing in following games.I would have agreed if it were not up to host countries to decide what sports they wish to introduce and the fact that the Olympics had not just added 18 events and 474 athletes in:
baseball/softball
karate
skateboard
sports climbing (this is not even real climbing)
and surfing (don't get me started on surfing)
to the 2020 list.
Any sport can be dropped by the IOC. I think the modern pentathlon is currently at risk. I think participation numbers is a key driver for olympic sports selection so field barebow might struggle.though those are what used to be called "demonstration sports*" having been picked by the local Olympic committee and have no guarantee of appearing in following games.
100% agree, Olympic compound would be dull, at least with barebow field there would be the occasional miss. Olympic compound wouldn't make much of a spectator sport.IMO.
If you want to put another archery sport in the Olympics make it Barebow field or even better Primitive field with selfbows.
For pities sake we don't need compound... Olympic archer has degenerated into a money-go-round for manufacturers.
It isn't very televisual or entertaining.

tbh I'vew never really understood why compounders shoot at 50m in the world cup. get them back to 90m and give them a 40cm face (I'll be fair - a full face not trips) ... lets see what they are really capable of when pushed to the limit! :mind-blow
Yup. I was a GamesMaker for the London Olympics - for the shooting. Lots of spectators were there because they just wanted to go to the Olympics - and didn't really care which sport it was. I doubt that any of them felt any desire to see indoor shooting again, let alone participate.
Would they have cheered 10s if that was all that was scored? It was of some amusement when the crowd cheered 10's and groaned at 9's
Going on what a non archer said to me after watching the Commonwealth Games in India - yesWould they have cheered 10s if that was all that was scored?
It's the reason I tried watching basketball once - and no more. It seemed like they could have started at 100 each and played for two minutes. Scoring a basket wasn't worth a cheer.
