I've heard many coaches tell people that using stablisers will "mask" form errors. I think this sort of phrase is dying out now and is becoming one of the myths of the past.
I like masking form errors, it's essential. You just have to be careful not to start leaning your shoulders back from vertical (due to the extra weight) when you start using one.
With that equipment, I agree with the other posters. Buy a long-rod.
